OPENING UP OUR SENSES

A WARMING BREAKFAST BOWL

Already the shift in seasons is apparent and we begin to crave more warming, comforting foods. Here we turn our attention to the foods that are in season and naturally these are foods that are sweeter, heavier and smooth. Foods that will keep us fuller for longer and make us feel nourished, warm and comforted. We move away from bright fresh herbs to earthy spices; cinnamon, cardamon, fennel and ginger to aid in our digestion, which also has a habit of slowing down this time of year. These foods are all Kapha orientated and are perfect to help us balance the seasonal Vata.

Recipe

1 mug of rolled oats

1 tbsp of ghee (optional for Vata and Pitta doshas)

1 tbsp maple syrup

1 1/2 musg of oat milk or milk of your choice

Water to adjust consistency

Warming Spices such as:

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp ground ginger

Cranberries or cooked apple to garnish

Method

Heat up ghee in a saucepan and add the rolled oats, add to this cinnamon, ginger and gently heat all the ingredients gently over a low heat.  Pour in the oat milk, if the oats start to thicken add water to loosen.

Add maple syrup mix and serve with a sprinkle of  cinnamon and cranberries.

This breakfast is deeply satisfying and give you lasting energy throughout your morning.

AN AUTUMN MEDITATION FOR THE SENSES

As the trees shed their leaves in earnest, so must we let go of what has served us, or not, this last year. Letting go of things that no longer serve us creates capacity for things that nourish us.
