AYURVEDA
THE KNOWLEDGE OF LIFE AND LONGEVITY
Ayurveda is ‘The knowledge of life and longevity’. Embracing Ayurveda is a lifestyle choice and one that will bring many benefits to help you live a longer, happier and healthier life.
The stresses of modern living can take their toll on our mental and physical well-being. Ayurveda offers us the chance to regain our body’s natural balance and to allow the mind to free itself, reducing stress and physical ailments. By altering our diet and lifestyle habits, we can counteract changes in the external environment that cause us to feel out of balance.
Once health is restored, the Ayurveda lifestyle will help maintain good health and slow the body's ageing process, protecting against age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's. Ayurveda can also help with easing headaches, increasing energy levels, weight gain or loss, skin conditions, anxiety and the menopause. Really, the list is endless.
THE PRINCIPLES OF AYURVEDA
WHY AYURVEDA?
Modern nutrition uses a ‘one size fits all’ approach to people of all different sizes, shapes and cultures but much research tells us that each persons metabolism functions differently and in an ideal world, should be treated accordingly.
Unlike modern nutritional support systems and dietary advice, Ayurveda has always had an individualised approach to nutrition and our specific metabolic functions. It can be very easily adapted to our modern lifestyles.
THE 5000-YEAR OLD HOLISTIC INDIAN MEDICAL SYSTEM THAT IS AYURVEDA STATES THAT POOR NUTRITION IS THE MAIN CAUSE OF DISEASE.
NUTRITION
When our bodies are healthy and strong, our mind stays balanced. Having the right nutrition, according to the Ayurveda philosophy for your body constitution, determines how we feel. How and what we eat is crucial to health and wellbeing.
Maintaining a healthy digestion and eating foods that help to nourish our body brings us life. Optimum health results in waking up feeling positive, with high energy levels, youthfulness, a glowing complexion and a proper functioning of senses - I could carry on listing the attributes for days!
Ayurveda teaches us that disorders occur due to imbalances in the body and mind. On my personal journey, food has fascinated me and good nutrition and lifestyle changes have given me more of an understanding to be able to feel balanced and lead a more holistic lifestyle.

Dosha Types
Dosha's are the bio-elements that make up our bodies and are linked to the elements of nature.
The key three Dosha’s are:
Vata - Air
Pitta – Fire
Kapha – Water
All three play their part in our bodies and achieving the right balance is essential to our well-being. Each person has a unique blend of all three Doshas, often with one being predominant. Our Doshas can be adjusted to help us maintain a better balance between our mind and body (called Prakriti).

Grow it.
With the right diet and life style, good health can be increased - not just maintained - and using an Ayurvedic approach, we can achieve this.
During our consultation I will determine your body constitution, go through potential issues and disorders, and we’ll look at your nutrition and lifestyle. I will offer you guidance and can suggest appropriate Ayurvedic supplements, recommend treatment methods and home remedies.
SIMPLE PRACTICES
FOLLOWING THESE FEW GOLDEN RULES TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY DIGESTION:
Eat when you are calm and relaxed so you can enjoy and nourish your food. If you are feeling stressed and angry, it is best to eat simply and lightly.
Eating food in a peaceful stress and distraction-free environment will help improve your digestion.
Chewing your food properly ensures your digestive enzymes get to work, making it easier for the rest of your digestive system to work. Foods you know that are incompatible with your digestion and Dosha type may cause imbalances in the body so are best avoided or enjoyed on occasion, in moderation.
Eating warm food and drinking warm water helps improve your digestion. Cold drinks can be a shock to the stomach and hot drinks slows digestion. Eating more cooked foods rather than raw foods is kinder to our digestive system too - because the digestive “fire” needs to stay alive and not be extinguished.
